In part 1 of this blog post we introduced you to some top tips for popping whether you are riding Hooked-in or Unhooked. The two videos have had a great response but check them out if you’ve yet to watch them… But now we thought it would be good to show you how you can take the basic technique of popping and move it forwards into more advanced tricks.
What next – Hooked-in Popping…
1. Popping on its own will get pretty boring pretty quickly so the next progression is definitely Popping to Toeside and it definitely beats forcing the board round like you may have been doing so far.
2. Next up has to be grabs and there are a lot of them to try, which in itself can keep you busy for some time!
3. Finally we suggest you take a look at the more advanced technique of Popping to Blind. This is a trick that takes some practice, to get used to the contorted position you have to get into. However once again, it will improve your kite and board control and set you up for taking your next progression, unhooking…
What next – Unhooked Popping…
When it comes to unhooking then possible tricks that lay ahead are endless! But to start with heres a few of the first progressions you should look at taking…
So there you have it, your next steps for popping whether you are hooked or unhooked. If you want more in-depth help with your kitesurfing then check our the our Progression DVDs which cover many of these tricks in full detail, including common mistakes and key elements helping you to get it nailed faster!
Its been a while since we posted our last trick terminology video but we now have a dozen lined up and ready to roll out over the coming weeks.
Today we start off with a couple of stylish twists on some of the standard tricks that any intermediate should be aiming for, all courtesy of one of the most stylish riders we’ve had the pleasure to work with – Dutch Kiteboarding Champion and Airush Rider Bas Koole.
Spice up that front roll! Take your standard hooked in boosted front roll, add a grab and kick back your head and shoulders to get inverted:
A transition with flair!
Ariel transitions can be pretty plain but not when you double up the back roll rotation and once again add in that grab and invert – smooth and stylish, we love this move!
Next week we’ll have two more tricks for all the advanced riders – and they might just give you a better idea of what Tom Hebert was doing here!
These videos do not have any in depth instruction but instead can help you quickly and visually define a particular kitesurfing trick. Whether you want to line up your next kiting progression, find inspiration or just appear more knowledgable down the beach these videos are an easy way to get clued up fast!
If there are any tricks you would like us to cover in our ‘Trick Terminology’ videos then just add them into the comments below and we’ll get it done!
This last year has been pretty quite on the Progression front as we’ve focused on getting the new Intermediate Volume 1 DVD completed but now that it is out there and selling well we can turn our view back to all our FREE online videos! We’ve been getting 1000′s of views everyday so it only seems right to start adding more tricks and techniques as we work towards out goal of have a short video for every trick and variation thats possible!
Today wehave a great mixture taken from footage we filmed for Adrenaline Sports last year in Turkey:
Todays videos are for the all the advanced riders looking to add a little something more to an existing trick.
Starting with a Krypt – a cool name for what is simply a raley landing toeside!
Then we have a Toeside hop to blind, its technical and the full backside 360 without an airpass makes it look fast and stylish.
Finally we a Raley to blind with a pop out – not as easy at looks, but pop outs are getting added to all types of tricks by the pro’s and it’s definitely a cool addition to your repertoire.
What tricks do you want to see next? We’ve got a couple more waiting in the wings but we are open to suggestions…
The next trick definition videos are for those of you looking to add something to your jumps, and a simple grab is the next option and there are plenty to choose from!
And a new series of trick definition videos are for those you trying out skimboards, a great lightwind board and fun alternative. We’ll start with two of the more basic techniques:
Unfortunately with myself in China and Will away in Brazil our plans for daily video updates got a little scuppered! But I’m back now and here’s several videos to get you all amped for whatever wind is heading in you direction over the next few days.
First up we have the next two parts of the Jame Boulding Interview, following on Part 1 two weeks ago:
This is one of my favourite interviews we’ve done so far. To be honest I didn’t know a whole lot about Davey Blair, other than seeing a few photos in the various mags (notably a pretty cool cover in the last issue of Kiteworld mag) and knowing he was part of that cool group of Hawaii kiters who seem to get on every amazing filming trip with Elliot Loboe or John Bilderback! Anyway, he was over for the Kiteworld Slider Jam and Jim (editor-in-chief) was kind enough to shepherd Davey around to our offices so we could get a different view point from our previous interviews, which admittedly focus more on the freestyle riding (of course Steph Bridge’s course racing board interview is an exception). Davey is a North Shore, Oahu, resident and so riding waves is a huge passion for him and I was excited to see what motivates and inspires him to get out there and battle the towering mountains that attack the Hawaiian islands. He’s also into his powered riding, particularly hitting kickers and sliders so he had a few words to day say about that side of things too.
My only regret with this interview was not finding a way to include my favourite response to my common question “What would you do if a friend is getting bored and de-motivated kitesurfing?” Normally this gains replies which are practical – try a new trick; kite at a different beach; take a trip with some friends. Not for Davey, his response – “Tell him he’s a little girl and then slowly increase the trash talk until he or she is riled up and they want to prove to me that they can do more on the water” – this was a serious response, said with determination, Davey loves kiting and will do what he was to to make sure everyone around him is loving it too!
And we’ve got more videos coming over the next week – A 3 part James Boulding interview – we just couldn’t shut him up! Plenty more trick definition videos to get you inspire to try something new, including some Aaron Hadlow clips from the Progression vault that are as innovative now, as when I filmed them nearly 3 years ago!
