We gave you a quick teaser of the next DVD in the Progression Series, Kiteboarding Intermediate Volume 1, when we got back from our last filming trip to Egypt. In that time we’ve been re-working the script as we review and analysis the footage for some of the more complex technical sections of the DVD and it hasn’t been as straight forward as we first thought.
Half the DVD will follow the standard Progression Method – First Run Through, Key Elements & Common Mistakes, but some of the insight we want to in part can be very technical and confusing if not explain in the correct manner – things like kite dynamics, apparent wind and kite tuning. These and other aspects are the kind of things you pick up over time from an experienced kiter, and are best explained face to face, as and when you come across the need to understand them. But for many access to this level of experience is not readily available or worst still you may not realise the question needs to be asked!
So though we hoped to have the new dvd available for Christmas, we didn’t feel that the we could if we wanted to offer the level of instructional expected, in a clear and easily understandable manner. So anyone looking to master carving turns, toeside riding, jumping, lightwind riding, Strong Wind riding, understanding riding in waves, chop, tide & current along with tuning of your kite, lines, bar and board, we’ll you’ll just have to wait until January 2010. Sorry but it will be worth the wait.
Also to clear up a little bit of confusion – this new Intermediate Volume 1 DVD is not a replacement for the current Intermediate DVD. It sits perfectly between the New Beginner 2nd Edition and the current Intermediate, which will later be re-branded Intermediate Volume 2 – so there is no reason to hold off buying either of these DVDs in time for Christmas

I would like to purchase a copy of your new Intermediate Volume 1 DVD to be released in January 2010.
Please keep me posted and send me payment instructions.
Cheers
Fabio
hi,
I watched the 2005-2006 dvd’s beginner, intermediate and advanced dvd’s from a friend a couple of months ago. My conclusion was that only old C kites were used and that I would be interested only if 2008/2009 bow or hybrid kites were being used.
Is the instruction in the new intermediate dvd still based on C kites?
fredt
Hey Fredt, the new intermediate uses all styles of kites. For the riding technique side of things (jumping, toeside riding & carving turns), the concepts are generally universal but for things like self launch and tuning obviously are effected in different ways by the style of kite.
Regarding the existing Intermediate, Advanced and Professional DVD, the style of kite doesn’t really effect the overall technique. Certain kites might make certain tricks easier to learn but the technique is on the whole identical. So even when we do update these DVDs (which we have no firm plans to do as yet) I don’t forsee that the style of kites will change the instruction much at all.
Hope that clears things up…
Also, some more delays with the new Intermediate DVD, gonna be a couple of months until its ready unfortunately… Sorry, we are trying but its be a complex video to make and other company prioritise are slowing it down too. Be worth it when it does arrive
Hey Rob,
how much is a “couple”?
Thanks, Cheers,
David
A couple is 2. Still working on the DVD unfortunately – some still a couple of months to go
What’s the latest ‘tentative release date’ for the INTERMEDIATE Volume 1 DVD at this time?
Hey Marc, still aiming for the end of Spring so we have til then end of May! That is the plan, but so much going on at the moment its hard to nail it down and not getting pulled off on to other projects unfortunately. Should have a better idea buy the end of April – we’ll keep you up to date. Thanks for your interest…
Love your DVD’s as I keep going back to them for reference for myself and helping others. I’ve transitioned a majority of my riding over to directional boards, and can get most of my jibes, and there seems be a lot of ideas from every rider as to the best way to perform it (and when to initiate) along with other riding techniques, e.g. toe side starts, upwind tacking, rail grabs, unstrapped, un-hooked, bottom turns etc. There does not seem to be any video out there that really addresses this other side of riding, which is a total blast, and was the way kiting was originally taught. Do you have any plans for a DVD addressing this.
Looking forward to a new DVD on this topic
@MarkBrown – we agree that there is a need for a video on riding surfboards and we have some great ideas on how to cover these topics but first we need to get the Intermediate Volume 1 completed and we have the international version of the Beginner 2nd Edition DVD. Unfortunately we are just a small team so each project takes sometime to complete to the standards we have set ourselves and level people now expect from a Progression DVD. These should be completed in the next 8 weeks and then we’ll look at future products but thanks for you feedback and it definitely helps us to set our priorities for future products (and a kite surfboard video is definitely high on the agenda!).
Thank you for the improved beginner video. I am looking forward to the intermediate. Please let me know when it is available. I understand it is difficult to sit in front of a screen editing when the wind is blowing.
Cheers
Hey Adrian, It is coming I promise!! In fact I’m about to sit done and continue editing it now

And I wish it was delayed because it was windy, in fact we’ve had one of the worse 6 months of wind, in the UK, that I can remember. Our problem is just too much work on other projects – but a nice problem to have
Plan is for a release in July. Keep checking the blog and we’ll let you know when we have a firm date.
The DVD is now available for pre-order and will be start shipping on Friday 3rd September 2010. Thanks for your patience!
